PINELLAS COUNTY URBAN LEAGUE

28th ANNUAL CRIME PREVENTION RUN &

FAMILY FESTIVAL

SEPTEMBER 15, 2012

The Pinellas County Urban League’s Black-On-Black Crime Prevention Program will host its twenty-seventh(27th) annual crime prevention 5 kilometer (3.1 miles) run and festival on Saturday, September 17, 2011.  Featuring live entertainment, free food, health screenings and social services information, door prizes and lots of laughter, the event continues a tradition of community involvement while evolving to include competitors from across the region.

This event, held in Childs Park and the surrounding community, promotes the theme “Crime Is Not a Part of Our Black Heritage” and symbolically runs crime out of our neighborhoods.   Mr. Gregory Johnson, former President & CEO of the Pinellas County Urban League, emphasizes the importance of this event for bringing together law enforcement personnel from throughout the county and local residents to share their common goal of reducing crime throughout Pinellas County.  “The fact that officers from multiple jurisdictions come together on their off-duty, unpaid time to participate in this event demonstrates that rank and file officers share community concerns, struggles, hopes and pride.  We are one community, and this event allows us to show the world that we are united to promote peaceful neighborhoods, safe schools and the determination to reduce the effects that crime brings to our families and friends,” says Johnson.

This year’s event offers a timed course using an urban walking trail and a portion of the Pinellas Trail.  Local and regional entertainers are encouraged to call (727) 328-1968  for information on participating in the event.

Founded in 1977, the Pinellas County Urban League is the premier social service and civil rights organization in Pinellas County.  We are one of the national urban League’s network of non-profit, community-based affiliates located throughout the United States.  The Urban League is a member agency of United Way since 1981.  The League operates social service programs throughout Pinellas County and serves those in need of career development, education, employment services, tutoring, energy assistance, crime prevention services, health screening and education services and housing weatherization.  More information about the Urban League can be obtained from our website, www.PCUL.org or by calling (727) 327-2081.

2011 participation certificates are available for a limited time.  Please click here to print your 2011 participation certificate.  If you do not have MS Word, please call Michael Adekunle at 727.328.1968.
